About the show

Everyone on the gender spectrum has to deal with men, and that's enough of a reason to study their enormous impact on our lives. Join Tell Me About Your Father hosts Erin Hosier, Elizabeth Thompson and Matt Phillp for this bi-weekly podcast discussing father figures, daddy issues, and the paternal mystique's hold on society. Episodes include interviews with people who have compelling father stories to tell, deep dives into dad-centric movies and TV shows, as well as the discussion of current events and pop culture through a dadly lense. If it’s about fathers, you’ll hear about it here.

Why not moms?

Ask someone about their father and they'll often tell you about their mother instead. As a culture, we have a collective father complex, and we're just beginning to contemplate that our expectations of them historically have been so low that abuse or silence is accepted as a normal byproduct of their hormones. Men tend to set the tone for their households, whether through their presence or absence, and a number of old tropes remain: moms are for cultivating tenderness, dads give tough love; motherhood changes everything for women, fatherhood is a feather in the cap of a man's heroic journey; moms nurture, dads provide. Everyone knows that God is a guy. The only matriarch we can pinpoint is Mother Earth, and obviously we never listen to her.

The thing is, even our moms have daddy issues. There are lots of fantastic shows out there about motherhood and our relationships with our mothers, but fewer about the men who made us and the impact of our societal father figures in general. We want to help fill that gap and hope you find our episodes helpful. Join us!
